The officers, joined by female officers from the Diepsloot Police Station, hosted a march in Rivonia as a way to raise awareness of the visible police division.
Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton police, said the awareness campaign took place every year in various areas.
“We decided to do this campaign as a way to make the community aware of our presence and encourage them to engage with us and not be afraid of the police,” he said.
He added that the campaign was normally hosted during Women’s Month annually, with female officers also conducting road blocks during the month.
He stressed that the police want to work together with the community to fight crime and urged residents not to be discouraged by a few corrupt police officers, as it was not a reflection of the entire force.
