The handover of the donated items took place on 13 August at the centre, and was part of a drive spearheaded by the Civic Awareness committee which saw a variety of clothing collected for the children.
Cindy Kree, office and projects manager at the Union of Jewish Women, said 53 sets of pyjamas were collected, with each of the children at the centre receiving their own set and blankets.
“[The] Civic Awareness committee at King David Sandton initiated the collection for the children who benefit from the projects run by the union,” she explained.
The remaining pyjamas would be used for the Granny and Child Headed Household Project which is also run by the union.
The Alex aftercare was established in 2012 by the union and Badiredi, a women’s outreach programme at the Lutheran Church in Alex, as a way to assist children with their educational support after school.
