Ecomobility festival Sandton road closures
SANDTON – As the City of Johannesburg gets ready for the Ecomobility Festival, the Sandton Central Management District has released information for residents regarding available routes during the upcoming festival.

The district began their information distribution this week and in the weeks leading to the festival, will release more information for residents, workers and motorists frequenting the Sandton Central District.
The festival will run from 1 to 31 October and is part of the City of Johannesburg’s plan to de-congest traffic and give preference to public transport, bicycles and pedestrians on our streets.
Routes during the festival include:
- West Street will become a dedicated pedestrian zone for EcoMobility. This area will span about 100m of the West Street roadway, from around Maude Street to Fredman Drive
- There will be more space for pedestrians and cyclists on three of the streets that intersect West Street
- Maude and Stella streets will have access only for local vehicle users and construction vehicles, while Alice Lane will function in the same way, but also offers access for public transport, including metered taxis and Tuk Tuks
- On certain weekends, Gwen Lane will be activated as an EcoMobility zone, but on weekdays it will remain open to vehicles from Fredman Drive
- All the roads will be surrounded by a public transport loop running around the Sandton CBD on Fredman Drive, Fifth Street and Rivonia Road, which will remain open to all vehicles, but will feature a dedicated bus lane and wider pavements.
- Public transport, in the form of buses and Gautrain, will also be available into the Sandton CBD.
