Bryanston resident’s determination to stop litter
BRYANSTON – One man's desire to see his street litter free has become an inspiration to residents in Bryanston.

Residents have praised Karl Lehmkuhl for taking the initiative of walking along his street on a daily basis and picking up litter.
The property consultant at Harcourts Solutions explained that for him, the clean-up came from his frustration with litter continually being strewn along the road.
“I just saw all the litter every day and it bugged me; it’s such an eyesore whenever I walk along the road,” he explained.
Lehmkuhl explained that because of that irritation he decided to take matters into his own hands and walk along Vrede Road, picking up all the rubbish he came across.
He added that doing this came out of his pet hate for litter and, despite getting stares at times, most people showed him a massive amount of support for what he was doing.
“Most of the residents are supportive and some want to take it further, but for me, it’s really not that big of a deal because all I want is for the street to be clean,” he said.
He said he only hoped that what he did on Vrede Road would serve to inspire more people and the City council to play their part in keeping the streets clean.
“This could also be an opportunity for job creation, maybe residents and businesses can agree to pay someone to do this from time to time,” he said with a smile.
