Ward 32 supports xenophobia victims with donations

BUCCLEUCH - The Ward 32 community has been collecting various donations at the New Church in Buccleuch for victims of xenophobia.

Bongani Nkomo, Ward 32 councillor said, “We felt that we had a responsibility to do what we can do as a community. He said the donations were going to be received by Gift of the Givers in Bramley. People have donated clothes, blankets and food parcels for the victims of xenophobia.

“Being Sandton residents, Alexandra, our neighbours who were affected by the xenophobic attacks, need our support,” said concerned Buccleuch resident, Andrew McMurray.

“We need to work closely with them.”

Nkomo added that this initiative needs to be ongoing. “We live in a community where people are willing to contribute towards a good cause.”

McMurray thanked all the other residents and community members who have made donations.

“Thank you to the community for rallying behind this initiative,” added McMurray.

He also showed appreciation for the New Church Buccleuch and its pastor, Mark Allais for opening the church doors to receive the donations.

“We will continue to receive any other donations from people, our doors are always open,” said Allais.
