CSS leaps into the future with new camera tech

ILLOVO - The fight against crime has just received a massive boost in the form of new iSentry cameras being installed around suburbs in Johannesburg.

The cameras, recently installed in Craighall and Craighall Park, are a product of CSS Tactical and use ‘learned’ behaviour by tracking and remembering everyday movement.

Chief executive officer for CSS Tactical, Ricky Croock, explained the new technology as world class and that it would benefit suburbs in a positive manner.

“This is steering the suburbs… into an era of innovative security beyond many first-world country neighbourhoods. It will enable residents to enjoy their community in a way that is much safer than before,” he said.

He further explained that these cameras had been strategically placed at entry and exit roads as well as intersections and traffic circles throughout the suburbs, allowing them to monitor all activity within the area.

Any abnormal or unusual behaviour picked up is sent to an automatic alert to the CSS Tactical control room, which is monitored 24/7.

“The alert is then assessed by the control room [and] should the situation be deemed dangerous or suspicious, a CSS Tactical unit is then dispatched,” he explained.

Croock said that because the system is supported by high speed fibre internet, images are provided in real-time and this eliminates the buffering of images.

The cameras were installed in association with the CraigPark Residents’ Association and will see other suburbs such as Atholl, Inanda and Illovo also installed with the cameras in the coming months.
