Suspect chased and arrested after housebreaking in Marlboro

MARLBORO - A suspect was arrested by the Bramley police for housebreaking in Marlboro on 5 April.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police, said the owner of the house was in the kitchen when he heard the dog barking uncontrollably. He said the man went outside to see what was going on and found nothing to be suspicious about.

Maphakela added that when the man returned to the house to check upstairs he saw a man jumping out of his son’s bedroom window carrying a bag. “He rushed downstairs to try catch him, but the man jumped over the wall,” explained Maphakela. He said the man got into his car, collected two security guards at the gate of his complex and went after the suspect who was running on foot.

Maphakela said the suspect was caught with R2 000 worth of stolen goods from the house. “The suspect was carrying a black sports bag containing clothes, a DVD player, a disc holder and old coins,” explained Maphakela. “The suspected was handed over to the police unharmed by the security guards.”

He said the suspect was arrested and detained at the Bramley Police Station and is expected to appear in court soon.
