Chocolate Easter eggs could be fatal to your dog

EASTER egg hunts are often considered a highlight of the holiday.

Many South African families take full advantage of the good weather by planning Easter activities outside.

A common crowd-pleaser for children is the Easter egg hunt through the garden.

Though the activity may provide hours of endless fun, Frontline Plus, a pet product company, is reminding pet owners that chocolate should be strictly kept away from dogs.

Chocolate Easter eggs are poisonous to dogs, as cocoa contains an ingredient called theobromine, which can be very toxic if ingested.

According to Frontline Plus, ingestion of chocolate could lead to vomiting, restlessness, anxiety and diarrhoea.

Furthermore, caffeine found in chocolate can also affect your dog’s heart. If left untreated, a dose of chocolate could result in heart problems.

So while you enjoy your Easter chocolate treats, be mindful not to let your furry friends ingest them!
