Pedestrian injured after allegedly being knocked down on M1

SANDTON - Emergency services are treating a pedestrian who was allegedly knocked down by a vehicle in the fast lane of the M1 highway between the offramps of Grayston Drive and Glenhove Road.

Journalist Nadia Ismail was travelling on the M1 in the Sandton area at 6.15pm and said cars had stopped on the highway in front of her.

She said she saw a man was lying on the right-hand-side of the highway by the fast lane.

Eyewitnesses on the scene believed a vehicle hit the pedestrian and believed the incident to be a hit-and-run. Ismail said there was traces of the vehicle on the highway.

Emergency services were on the scene and were treating the man for his injuries. Onlookers stopped to assist with lighting.

The fire department was on scene as well and helped to divert traffic onto Corlett Drive. She said there was a heavy build up of traffic. Metro police then arrived on scene.

Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said he was investigating the incident.
