Unscheduled load shedding concerns resident

WOODMEAD - Leonie Wyneck warned fellow locals to look out for unscheduled load shedding times.

She said the electricity went off on one Saturday and she just assumed it was load shedding. “It went off again on Sunday and I knew something was wrong because we were not notified about any load shedding that weekend,” explained Wyneck.

She said she called Eskom and notified them of the unscheduled load shedding. “Eskom did not know that there was no electricity in our area,” she said. While she was on the phone with Eskom, the electricity was switched back on. “It must have been a glitch in the system because if I had not notified them that we had no electricity, we would have remained in the dark,” added Wyneck.

Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp said, “Part of the problem of load shedding is when they turn the electricity off and on at the various substations, a lot of the equipment is old so they sometimes have problems at the smaller mini substations which simply extends the outage.”

Wyneck encourages all residents to keep up with load shedding schedules and to contact officials when their electricity goes off unexpectedly in case Eskom or City Power is experiencing a glitch in the system.
