Obsidian to toast the power of Open Source

JOBURG - Obsidian Systems will once again host its exciting Free Beer Sessions on 12 March.

The sessions are part of the company’s on-going networking and information series, and will run under the theme of the power of Open Source, a software intended to create ‘freedom’ to evaluate, integrate, fix, decide, participate and train for a company’s software needs.

Muggie van Staden, managing director at Obsidian Systems explained the reason behind hosting the sessions.

“Free Beer Sessions are about crafting open source technology while having fun, food and of course, free beer,” Van Staden said.

He added that apart from the free beers, the sessions would be a way for guests to share their experiences with Open Source principles, discuss ideas and the realities of innovation within the country’s growing Open Source software community.

He added that web developer and operating system evangelist at Mozilla, Schalk Neethling would be one of the many speakers at the event.

“He has a passion for standards, accessibility, usability and Open Source, and will impart his knowledge and experience to the audience,” he said.

Obsidian Systems was founded in 1995 as a small services business targeting businesses and organisations looking to integrate and leverage off Linux, an operating system infrastructure.

The Free Beer sessions will take place at Investec in Sandton.
