Teachers from all over South Africa were invited to learn and embrace the benefits of the addition of technology in the classroom.
Sandton Chronicle asked a few teachers who attended the event about their thoughts on the addition of technology into education.
Jopie Maasdam of Maravest: “What I enjoy about the technology is that it enables one to get through the content matter much quicker and helps kids to understand. It gives us time to engage with the children.”
Florence Ntantana of Ntsikana Primary School: “I think the iPad will help the learners communicate easier with the teachers.”
Candise Viljoen of Reddam House Johannesburg: “Technology in education has changed the focus from how I teach to how children learn.”
Tammy Sales of Trinity House Randpark Ridge: “I think its definitely the way forward. And we need technologies in schools, because if we don’t do it then the kids will do it anyway. But I definitely feel that it mustn’t be a replacement for pen and paper but rather extend from that.”
Sally Govender of Auckland Park Preparatory: “I loved it. And we are so blessed that we have iPads and we’ve been implementing them. Though it might not take away the importance of the pen and paper, it will be a major improvement.”
Colin Northmore of Sacred Heart College: “We have to prepare children for jobs that don’t exist yet. The kind of work they are going to be doing, they need to be very familiar with this technology. Not only in the using but also creating.”
