Building disruptions continue on Grayston Drive
BENMORE - The issue of building noise and the contravention of regulations by building contractors on Grayston Drive continues.

This according to irate resident, Max Aston who lives right next to the construction site. He has expressed his concerns to authorities regarding the excessive building noise which takes place outside of regulated hours.
He said he had received a promising response from the building contractors who reassured him that construction would stop on Sundays and the set working hours during the week would be enforced.
“Any optimism I had following this news disappeared on Thursday evening when building noise continued late into the night,” explained Aston.
Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) said for any construction, there should be approved site development plans from Development Control. She explained that the Metro police manage any bylaw enforcement in terms of traffic and noise levels.
“The JRA’s Traffic Engineering will only give approval subject to the approval by the Metro police,” she added.
With regards to construction taking place over the weekend, Peters-Scheepers explained that the approval for crane removal would normally be granted for a weekend as this is the safest time to do so with minimal impact on traffic flow. “Should the residents feel that the conditions have not been adhered to by the contractor, we recommend they approach the Metro police as well as the JRA Regional office for further investigation,” she added.
No comment was received from Metro police by the time of publication.
