Armed robbers run away with R29 700

ILLOVO - Armed robbers targeted a man who was carrying R29 700 in a bag at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium .

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the spokesperson for the Bramley police, said the man was an employee for the Gauteng Cricket Board. He came from the bank to cash a company cheque. “He was coming out of his company car when he was approached by two unknown male suspects,” explained Maphakela.

He said one of the suspects was armed with a 9 millimetre black pistol. “The suspects threatened the man and the unarmed suspect grabbed the bag of money and both suspects ran towards the gate,” said Maphakela. He added that the man screamed for help and other employees joined him.

“Two other suspects met the other suspects at the gate and all four suspects managed to run away,” explained Maphakela. He said no shots were fired onsite and the suspects drove off in a white Hyundai i20.

The police have obtained CCTV footage from the premises. An investigation is pending and no arrests have been made as yet.
