Festive greetings from the Sandton police

SANDTON - As residents prepare to relax and enjoy the festive season, the Sandton police have extended warm wishes to residents for the holidays.

Captain Kym Cloete, spokesperson for the Sandton police, expressed hope that residents would enjoy the season and travel safely during the period.

“As a police station, we hope to build on our successes and make this a safer community to live in [and] we hope to learn from our challenges, to ensure that our service improves,” she said.

Cloete also issued tips to residents on maintaining safety during the holidays, reminding residents of dedicated patrol vans for each of the four sectors in Sandton.

She also caution residents to know their designated patrol van’s number as the patrol areas are now smaller and can react faster.

“We urge residents to contact their patrol van if they are concerned about a problem at their residence while away on holiday,” she said.

“Those who are going away, please put a notice on your fridge of an emergency contact person, so that should access be gained to your residence, the police officers at the scene can immediately contact someone. ”

The police will be busy with festive operations so Cloete warned community members to ensure they have designated sober drivers available at all times.

Finally, Cloete cautioned residents to remain vigilant concerning criminals and their modus operandi, or use of a ‘jamming device’.

Cloete urged residents to check their vehicles manually to ensure they are really locked and to verify which shopping centres have alarms which activate should a jamming device be used.

“Over this festive period, while law-abiding citizens are shopping for family and loved ones, criminals [are also doing their own kind of shopping],” she cautioned.
