Ending the year with a smile

SANDTON - After a successful year which ended with the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge, the Smile Foundation hosted a very special event at the Sandton Sun International Hotel's San Deck to show their appreciation to their most dedicated donors on 25 November.

The Smile Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in 2000 which works with seven government and academic hospitals to give children who have facial anomalies, free facial reconstructive surgery.

Executive director of finance and fundraising, Hedley Lewis said, “The Smile Foundation uses a holistic approach. With the surgeries, we give psychological support, occupational therapy, dental, as well as speech therapy.”

The event celebrated a stellar year, giving thanks to all the riders who participated in the cycle challenge on 16 November, and various donors and supporters. With cocktails and delicious canapés, the event saw everyone in attendance mingling and looking forward to an exciting new year.

Founder and executive chairman of the Smile Foundation, Marc Lubner said there was so much effort that goes into the running of the organisation, and although there is a core team, the foundation is made up of a much bigger family who all deserve a great deal of appreciation.

Lubner added there would be a lot of developments in 2015, and said, “At the moment we are busy negotiating with our eighth hospital.”
