Michael Mount matric artists dazzle

BRYANSTON - Matric pupils at Michael Mount Waldorf School in Bryanston curated their end-year art exhibition showing off their wide array of work on 23 October.

Opening the exhibition, art teacher Mr Gerhi Janse van Vuuren said, “Being an artist is an attempt to cheat death. It is a process of externalising pieces of yourself and casting them in forms that might outlast you. And that may continue to exist even when you are no longer there. Thanks to artists and what they do, we matter, we belong, we have order, we have the present now and we can live today.”

The 11 students collectively produced more than 140 individual pieces. Marketing manager of Michael Mount Waldorf School Mandy Triaca said, “This creative outpouring was a feast of colour, style and originality. Art lovers, friends and family thronged the displays.”

Michael Mount Principal William Bester said, “To see all 140 individual pieces of art displayed by the 11 Matric students in one exhibition is inspiring. The talent, the variety of media employed and the sheer outpouring of creativity this year bears testament to a year of concentrated effort by the Class of 2014. We are very proud of both the quality and the quantity of work on display
