Two questioned for Meyiwe’s murder

BUCCLEUCH - Two people were brought in for questioning after the murder of soccer player and Buccleuch resident, Senzo Meyiwa.

Police provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Neville Malila said reports from various media houses that two people were arrested were untrue.

He said the police have interviewed two people regarding the Meyiwa murder case. “One person presented himself to the police after posts on his Facebook page suggested him to be one of the suspects in the sketch released to the media,” explained Malila.

“He was interviewed and released. A second person was brought in by the Metro police to the investigation team. The person was also interviewed and after the investigation team satisfied themselves that the person cannot be linked to the crime, he was released.”

Malila said none of the two individuals could be linked to the crime. “No arrests have been made but investigations continue and investigators are following up on all leads received through our Twitter, Facebook, Crime Stop and Crime Line numbers.”

He added that interviewing possible witnesses and possible suspects was an integral part of the normal investigative process.

A reward of up to R250 000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects for the murder of Meyiwa.
