A resounding success for business enthusiasts

SANDTON - The Minister of Small Business Development, Lindiwe Zulu wants to place Small, Medium and Macro Enterprises (SMMEs) at the centre of accelerated economic growth and development.

This following the National SMME Policy Colloquium that took place in Sandton, in which concrete and practical resolutions were discussed to assist government to respond effectively to the challenges that confront small businesses.

“I am confident that all of us gathered here will do everything in our power to make this National SMME Policy Colloquium a resounding success,” said Zulu during her speech at the colloquium.

“We must not allow this Colloquium to end up as a talk-shop. Indeed, out of this gathering, we must emerge with building blocks for a robust and sustainable policy environment that places SMMEs at the centre of accelerated economic growth and development.”

Zulu is confident the calibre of people who attended the colloquium will assist to develop clear policy proposals that will place SMMEs at the centre of accelerated growth and development.

She said the president had established the Ministry for Small Business Development as part of government’s commitment to place the economy and job creation at the centre stage. “Government is convinced that through this intervention, we will be able to unlock economic opportunities and thus achieve inclusive economic growth and sustainable employment, particularly for women, youth and people with disabilities,” explained Zulu.

She added that SMMEs have the power to be the backbones of any economy and the main driver of economic growth. “Small businesses are significant contributors to job creation, creating more than 50 percent of all employment opportunities in South Africa,” she added.

“Our country is yet to see the true value and benefits of SMMEs.”
