Forces combine to arrest Atholl suspects

ATHOLL - The CSS Tactical team, together with the Bramley police, successfully arrested two suspects following an alleged attempted armed robbery incident.

The incident took place in Atholl when according to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, two suspects in a black Mercedes Benz attempted to rob a resident as he was trying to enter his residence.

“The complainant noticed the suspicious-looking vehicle as he was entering his driveway and saw an unknown male get out from the car and pull out a firearm, which he pointed in the complainant’s direction,” the spokesperson said.

As the complainant reversed out of the driveway, the suspects sped off and were then followed by the complainant, who alerted the security team of the situation.

Maphakela added that during the ensuing chase, one of the suspects jumped out from the car and fled, but was captured by the security team.

“The other suspect made off with the car but was later pulled over on Witkoppen Road for speeding and was later linked to the incident in Atholl,” he said.

Maphakela added that the two suspects were also linked to a string of cases in Pretoria and Johannesburg, including hijacking, possession of stolen goods, housebreaking and theft, among others.

Both suspects appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ court on 28 October and were charged with attempted armed robbery.
