Celebrate curvaceous beauties
SANDTON - Celebrating curvaceous women and their beauty, CSquare Models are set to host The Miss Curvaceous 2014 pageant next month.

The pageant will see 10 finalists compete and showcase their beauty and talent at the Empire Hotel in November.
According to Nontando Ngidi, co-founder of CSquare Models, the idea behind hosting the pageant was to celebrate curvaceous women and their beauty.
“We decided to promote curvaceous women because we noticed a gap in the market and saw how most agencies generally catered for skinny or plus-sized women only,” she said.
Ngidi further added that launching a pageant of this kind also had to do with wanting to change the perception of what beauty is, stating that women could be beautiful in every shape.
She also stressed the need to inspire curvaceous women to celebrate their bodies and be proud to show them off.
“We want curvaceous women to realise that despite having a different body type, they are still beautiful,” she said.
The Miss Curvaceous pageant is in its second year. Ngidi said the first one was a resounding success with the public.
She also added that, through the pageant, women would be able to give back to their communities and inspire other curvaceous women to be proud of who they are.
Ngidi added that part of attempting to change perceptions meant encountering challenges from the fashion industry because of the types of models preferred by designers.
“Well-known designers quite simply refuse to have curvaceous women modelling their clothing on runways despite the fact that they could design clothing for curvaceous women, so this was a challenge for us” she said.
This led Ngidi and her partner, Femi Jegede, to launch their own fashion show, which became a platform to showcase the work of emerging designers catering for curvaceous women only. The show also provides curvaceous women with a platform to be models.
The Miss Curvaceous pageant will take place on 1 November and the public can have their say and vote for their favourite finalist by liking their picture on the Miss Curvaceous Facebook page, MisscurvaceousSA
