Celebrate South Africa’s handmade talent

HYDE PARK - Sanlam and Artlogic hosted a very special lunch at YSWARA in Parkhurst giving the media and event organisers a little taste of what to expect at the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair on 15 October.

Going into its fifth year with a new name, from FoodWineDesign to the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair, and a bigger roster of South Africa’s top chefs, designers and artisans, the fair will be held on the rooftop of Hyde Park Corner.

“For us our new name encompasses all the curatorial work which goes into this event to bring together true artisans immersed in their craft,” said event curator Roberta Thatcher from Artlogic.

The media lunch was prepared by Parkhurst-based restaurant and exhibitor Coobs and showcased impressive displays of some of the works to be exhibited at the fair.

Exhibitor and Jeweller Henriette Botha said the fair is a celebration of the luxury level of handmade items, and shows off the great deal of creative talent in South Africa.

Carl Roothman, Chief Executive of Sanlam’s Investment Retail Business said, “Over the past five years, the Fair has not only seen a rise of similar events country wide, but it also continues to celebrate the pioneering spirit of South African entrepreneurs as it blazes its own notable trail, and that is the type of high quality we at Sanlam take pride in being associated with.”

The Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair will be held from 7 November to 9 November. From leather workers, to jewellers, ice cream makers and hand-pulled noodle experts, several artisans will take turns to temporarily showcase their craft in a dedicated space at the Fair. Visitors will be able to view these producers at work and interact with them, thus gaining an exclusive glimpse into the studio life of artisans.
