Police recover stolen property from heist

SANDOWN - A house in Sandown was ransacked by six suspects on the morning of 11 October.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, acting spokesperson for the Sandton police, said the suspects entered the place of residence in Sandown and stole a number of items from the house.

“They tied up the victims in the house, took what they wanted and loaded the goods into the boot of a white Alfa Romeo,” explained Maphakela.

He said the suspects and the vehicle were later found by the police close to Midrand. Inside the boot, the police found cellphones, television screens, a DVD player, bags, jewellery, CCTV equipment and a safe.

“The three suspects tried to run away from the police once they were spotted, but the police gave chase and took them into custody,” added Maphakela.

He said two iPhones were also recovered from the suspects’ pockets after they went through a body search. The three suspects aged 24, 27 and 31 are expected to appear at the Alexandra Magistrates’ court soon.

Maphakela said the suspects have been charged with house robbery, and possession of stolen property and vehicle.

“The three other suspects are still on the run and we are appealing to the community members who have any information to come forward and inform the police,” said Maphakela.

  1. Congratulations and a big thank you to Colonel Andre de Klerk and his team at Sandton Police Station for their brilliant work in arresting 3 suspects involved in an armed robbery at my house in Sandown on Saturday the 11th October. The intruders gained entry by lifting the electric gates to the complex and my property, whereupon they assaulted me with a pick axe. I was tied up with cable ties, as was my domestic worker and the robbers made off in a white Alpha Romeo with various electronic items and household goods. SAPS and ADT responded promptly to the panic button and the police were able to track the suspects to Tembisa where they arrested 3 of them. Most of my property was recovered and returned to me.
Well done Sandton SAPS – a brilliant job.
