Construction activities continue on Coleraine Drive
RIVERCLUB - Construction activities on the collapsed Coleraine Drive bridge in Riverclub are proceeding.
Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp said, “The Johannesburg Roads Agency maintains that the estimated completion date of the building will be in December, we’ll have to see.”
Bertha Peter-Scheepers, the spokesperson for the roads agency said construction of the new storm water drainage pipes was in progress. She also said the caisson [watertight chamber] foundations for the abutments had been constructed, and the bases to the abutments.
She added that the construction of the abutment walls was also under way. Also, the first section of the portion of walls to carry the bridge deck was complete, and the end and wing walls of the abutment walls were still under construction.
The construction of new storm water drainage pipes, the demolition of the concrete covering the water pipes and the manufacturing of the precast concrete bridge beams were all in progress.
She also mentioned that the 400mm asbestos cement water pipe was still in the way of the inlet structure. However, she said Joburg Water was planning on how to move the pipe safely and without damage.
