Boom gates bring safety to community
SANDTON - Gated communities in Sandton serve to protect and maintain the security of the residents living in the area.
This according to the chairman of the Community Action Company (Cac), Martin Rosenberg, who presided over the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held at the Gallo Manor Police Station on 7 October.
He spoke about the importance of boom gates and how the gates can deter criminals and maintain the safety and security of residents.
Another community member countered that the idea of a gated community was not the best, but it helped with security.
“We can’t force anyone to pay for the administration of the road closures,” he explained.
“The road closures are in place for the benefit of all the community members, so we need the support from the rest of the community to keep it going.”
Estelle Rosenberg, the CAC administrator added, “Currently we have few people paying for the security that benefits us all. It is not fair.”
Martin went on to explain that there were various areas in Sandton that previously had bad experiences of crime. He added, “The crime rate has dropped in the areas that have road closures.”
He also said the organisation needed more members, especially young members, to join the organisation.
“It is all about volunteering and being pro-active in the community,” said Martin.
Cac was launched in 1992 after concerned residents held a public meeting in response to the rising crime in Sandton.
