Open access Wi-Fi company to be launched in SA
JOBURG - Open-access Wi-Fi is set to become a reality for many South Africans after Dimension Data announced plans to launch a company which will offer an affordable Wi-Fi network.

According to Business Tech, Dimension Data is set to launch WirelessCo, a company aimed at providing consumers with affordable Wi-Fi across the country.
According to Derek Wilcocks, chief executive officer of Dimension Data Middle East and Africa, WirelessCo will offer an open access carrier-grade Wi-Fi network, one which would act as a viable and cost effective alternative to traditional data communication.
“This network will enable more South Africans with affordable internet access [and] is committed to making the necessary investments to ensure Wi-Fi is available everywhere and to everyone, driving digital inclusion for all of the country,” he explained.
Additionally, this network would combine the Wi-Fi network assets of Wi-Fi provider AlwaysOn, together with the Wi-Fi assets of MWEB Wi-Fi and is partly owned by MultiChoice.
The report concluded that WirelessCo is still subject to approval by the competition authorities.
