Former manager of Wolves Cafe accused of rape

ILLOVO - The former manager of a popular coffee shop in Illovo, Wolves Café, was arrested and charged with allegedly sexually assaulting an employee.

Spokesperson for the Bramley police Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the incident occurred at 8.30am on 2 September when the victim made her way to the neighbouring shop, Good Luck Club, to collect spoons.

Maphakela said, “When she entered the shop the manager grabbed her from behind and pushed her into the toilet.”

He added that the suspect pushed her down after removing her trousers and undergarments and she began to scream. Maphakela said the suspect overpowered the complainant and proceeded to sexually assault her.

The suspect was arrested on 3 September.

Co-owner of Wolves Café and Good Luck Club, Tashia Harduth, who had rushed to the store upon hearing the news said, “The employee who committed the crime is no longer with us. All we can do at the moment is support the victim and make sure that we make a safe working environment for the women at our store. Its a difficult time and we work hard to not let this happen in the future.”

The suspect appeared at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 4 September.
