New sewer line at park

BRYANSTON - Joburg Water is attending to a broken sewer line at Cottesmore Park in Bryanston.

This according to Ward 104 councillor, Mike Wood, who said the sewer line was damaged and had to be replaced before an environmental disaster occurred.

“Joburg Water is moving the sewer line to protect it,” added Wood.

He said the sewer line had been operating from inside a stream and had started to erode.

“The sewer line had to be moved from inside the stream because it was leaking,” said Wood.

He said the leakage posed a threat of water contamination of a nearby river.

Joburg Water has been working on the sewer line for the past two months and is set to be finished within the next month and a half.

He added that the City of Johannesburg wants to also build a pedestrian bridge in the near future to make walking easier for domestic workers and residents.

“We’re hoping that the development at this park will encourage residents to come here and actually utilise the park,” said Wood. He said that if lots of people used the bridge, it would create an incentive for the City to develop the park for public use.

“The bridge is a long-term plan, at the moment we just want to focus on moving the sewer line,” said Wood.
