Bryanston Primary to hold fundraiser

BRYANSTON - Bryanston Primary School will be hosting their annual Tickey Afternoon on 30 August from 12pm to 4pm on the school's Hedding Field.

The afternoon is a tradition which began in the 1960s as a mini-fete and fundraiser, allowing Grade 7 pupils to raise money for gifts to be presented to the school.

ICT and e-learning co-ordinator at Bryanston Primary School, Tania Roman said, “The idea behind the day was to enable the Grade 7s to give the school a gift by which they could be remembered, and also to give something back to the school as a special thank you for all that had been done for them during their years here.”

She added, “Tickey Afternoon is no longer simply a fundraising event. It is an educational exercise in co-operation, compromise, planning, how to run meetings, not taking, and basic economic skills. Organising their own activities encourages learners to use their own ideas and initiative.”

The event will be a free fun-filled day with many activities for the whole family.
