7 August, 10.30:

A female domestic worker was murdered by two suspects in Parkmore.

This according to Captain Kym Cloete, spokesperson for Sandton police, who said the woman’s body was found by the gardener at 9am.

“The gardener arrived at his work in Parkmore and rang the doorbell,” explained Cloete, who said an unknown man then opened the door for him.
Cloete added, “The suspect grabbed the gardener and took him inside to where the deceased’s body was. He was warned to [keep] quiet or else he would also be hurt.”

She said the two suspects were packing up various goods from the house but abruptly left without them.

“The deceased sustained multiple stab wounds [to] her body,” said Cloete.

She said Sandton police are currently investigating a murder case and awaiting the results of the post mortem.

No arrests have yet been made.

Penny Steyn, from Making a Difference Campaign’s Domestic Watch and Police Customer Service Training, was saddened by the incident.
She said only around 12 domestic workers in Parkmore attended her domestic watch meetings in the suburb where she educates domestic workers on crime prevention tips.

She said this figure was in stark contrast to the 50 to 60 domestic workers who used to attend the meetings, and said that with only a few participants, it was difficult to make an impact on crime prevention in the area. She called on employers to encourage domestic workers to attend the crime-prevention meetings.
