Suspect arrested after tavern armed robbery

MARLBORO - One of two suspects has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery committed outside Sam’s Tavern in Marlboro.

The robbery occurred on 31 May after the victim met his girlfriend at the tavern.

Two men approached them accusing the victim of fighting with her.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said they began to push the victim, who resisted, but soon overpowered him and took him outside.

One of the suspects pulled out a firearm and took the victims bag which had a number of items to the value of R8 000 including three cameras, a cellphone, various items of clothing and a Samsung tablet.

Maphakela said one suspect was in custody while the other was still at large.
