Bryanston High School stages dramatic love story

BRYANSTON - Bryanston High School's musical production West Side Story opens on 20 May and runs until 23 May.

Set in the Upper West Side neighbourhood of New York during the ’50s, it explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.

The story is a modern re-telling of the Shakespearian Romeo and Juliet featuring Tony, one of the Jets gang, who falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks gang.

This year’s major production includes a huge cast of more than 50 pupils, giving many budding actors, singers and dancers the chance to experience the camaraderie and thrill of taking part in a live stage production.

The public are invited to come and watch the show on 20 May at 3pm, or 21-23 May at 7pm.

Bookings can be made at the school office.
