#BringBackOurGirls memorandum handed over

SANDTON - The global #BringBackOurGirls campaign has handed over its memorandum.

Activists have handed over their memorandum to a representative from the Nigerian embassy.

The member has signed the document. The #bringbackourgirls activists celebrated in song after the handover.

The group have been denied access to the embassy because of a so called security threat.

A group of about 200 marchers has arrived at the Nigerian embassy in Sandton as part of the #bringbackourgirls campaign.

The group plans to hand a memorandum over at the embassy shortly.

Celebrity Ntsiki Mazwai said: “This is a problem. We need to create a conversation. We need to find our girls and bring them back home.”

Reporter Gugu Zwane says that the atmosphere outside the embassy is chaotic.

The crowd of activists reportedly cheered as they passed a St Davids Marist banner which supported their campaign, while motorists who passed the group hooted in support.

The #bringbackourgirls march got underway in Sandton at about 10.30am.

About 200 people gathered on the rooftop of the Sandton City mall and will march the the Nigerian embassy.

Celebrities including Ntsiki Mazwai and Samkelo Ndlovu have joined the march.

Activists will gather at Sandton City’s rooftop at 10am. Sharon Swain, centre manager at Sandton City said, “We have been made aware that participants of the “Bring Back Our Girls” rally are planning to convene on Sandton City’s rooftop before marching to their destination. We expect this to be a peaceful rally and while we will be monitoring the situation, we don’t anticipate any disruption to shoppers or tenants.

“We can confirm that we are not involved in organising today’s rally.  We do, however, support the calls for the safe return of the girls to their families as soon as possible.”

This following the global protests that have been taking place under the banner ‘Bring back our girls’.

The march will start just off Sandton Drive, by Tiger Wheel and Tyre and it will head towards the Nigerian embassy on Rivonia Road, in Illovo.

The march is being organised by South African actress and activist Rosie Motene. She has said in a press statement that the protesters will march to the Nigerian embassy to demand that the government of that country place more resources, attention and focus on liberating the abducted girls.
