Best schools rugby on display

PETER PLACE – Saints accept defeat at the hands of South African College School at the Saint Stithians Easter Rugby Festival.

Joburg’s top rugby schools were pitted against some of South Africa’s best during the Saint Stithians College Easter Sports Festival, which kicked off on 17 April and concluded on 21 April.

The hosts played and lost a tough game against Cape Town’s South African College School (SACS). Defense was the Saints’ main priority in the face of an advancing aggressor. SACS was 12 points ahead by half time. A try by the home side’s Matthew Wade in the second half brought the score to 10-15.

SACS continued their onslaught against the Saints until a last-minute penalty by the Saints’ Asanthi Nxumalo took their score up to 20. But it was too little too late, who conceded a 20-27 victory.

“I thought it was a good game,” said an unfased Saints coach Ian Rickleton.

“The team struggled at first, but they came back nicely after scoring two tries. SACS were, however, the worthy winners here after a very competitive game.”
