Business clean up Shanduka awards
RIVONIA- The Shanduka Black Umbrellas Enterprise Development held their awards, giving recognition to black owned businesses who have pushed the boundaries.

The Shanduka Black Umbrellas Enterprise Development awards recently took place in Rivonia, and three innovative businesses were honoured at the Johannesburg regional awards. Shanduka Black Umbrellas which opened in 2009, is one of the primary beneficiaries of the Shanduka Group, and has assisted in developing a number of black owned businesses in the country with regards to training and sustainability. The non-profit business is an incubation programme and uses these awards to reward and acknowledge those entrepreneurs in its programme who are making a difference and creating further employment.
The Best Performing Company award, a prize based on generated profit and net asset value, went to Nerm Applications and Testing, who are involved in high voltage substation construction, maintenance and testing.
First place for the award in Job Creation went to Molete & Khumalo Chartered Accountants owned by Mojalefa Molete and Peterson Khumalo, who have realised and acknowledged the importance in diversification and flexibility in business and have used their insight to the Community’s advantage. Partner Peterson Khumalo said, “It’s about giving value and understanding your clients because of the personal relationship you have with them.”
Time Keeper Trading’s Samson Sekgolea was voted Best SBU Ambassador. Samson Sekgolea is a young humble entrepreneur whose money contraints in his dream to be engineer led him to supplying safety gear to Eskom among other big organisations. His turnover has grown to more than one million rand a month in a short space of time. He now supplies safety gear to Eskom among other big organisations.
Chief executive officer of the Shanduka Black Umbrellas Mark Frankel said, “Entrepreneurship is vitally important to the economic and social development of South Africa. However, for those people who decide to start their own businesses, it can be a tough decision and transition. We are proud of so many of our clients who have undertaken the journey with us. These awards help celebrate what they have achieved and the difference they are making while also encouraging and inspiring other entrepreneurs.”
Regional awards also take place this month in Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria. The national awards take place at the Maslow Hotel in Johannesburg in June.
