Planned power outages for the Parks

Several parts of northern Johannesburg will be without electricity on 22 April and 29 April due to planned power outtages.

Parts of Blairgowrie, Greenside, Parkwood, Craighall, Hyde Park, Craighall Park, Dunkeld West, Parkhurst, Emmarentia and Parktown North will be without power from 10pm on 22 April until 6am the next day.

Parts of Blairgowrie, Craighall, Parkhurst, Craighall Park, Parktown, Dunkeld West, North, , Parkview, Saxonwold, Houghton Estate, Parkwood , Hyde Park and Westcliff will experience the same a week later on 29 April.

According to Ward 117 councillor, Tim Truluck the power outages will be due to maintenance by City Power on a Parkhurst sub-station.

“As usual, be prepared and expect the worst. If there is no outage, then that’s a bonus,” said Truluck.

“The reason that we have to endure so many planned outages is that equipment at the sub-station is old and needs upgrading. The good news is that we will be getting a R10 million upgrade in 2014/15 and another R10 million in 2015/16. These upgrades should reduce the planned outages.”
