Stolen safe in Sandown

SANDOWN - A Safe was stolen from a hotel room in Sandown.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson of the Bramley police said a 39-year-old man from Brazil left his hotel room to play pool. “Before he left, he locked his room and went downstairs,” Maphakela explained.

He added that when the man returned from his game of pool he realised that his hotel room was unlocked. “Someone unlocked the door to gain entry and they accessed his cupboard and forced out a safe that was mounted onto the wall,” said Maphakela.

He said the items inside the safe included a credit card, R4 500, a driver’s licence, a plane ticket, an identity document as well as insurance papers valued at R20 000. “There was no CCTV footage from the hotel. The police are investigating the incident,” said Maphakela.
