Fast food, faster criminals
JOBURG - THE Burger King franchise in Sandton has apparently become the latest hotspot for crime.

This comes after the store opened it’s doors at a grand opening event on 1 February on Rivonia Road. Customer Darren Jacobs said, “We had almost R500 worth of Burger King food stolen from the boot of a car.”
He said while he was at the fast food outlet, Bramley police were present and informed him that there was a similar case of theft out of a vehicle in which a laptop was stolen from the parking lot. “I also heard that a friend saw a woman complaining to the manager about a similar type of crime incident,” added Jacobs.
Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police said he was unaware of any criminal incidents reported from Burger King. “I would need a case number to confirm anything,” he explained.
Jacobs said after he discovered that groceries had been stolen from his car boot, he requested to speak to the manager of Burger King. “We told the manager what had happened and asked if we could see CCTV footage of the parking lot, but the manager said that they did not have any security cameras outside. We also asked if we could then be compensated somehow but the manager was so rude to us.”
Jacobs added that there was no windows broken or any visible signs of forced entry. He suspects a car jamming device might have been used to gain access to the car.
A case was opened with Sandton police and Jacobs was informed that the case would be sent to Bramley Police Station as theoutlet was in the Bramley police sector. Captain Kym Cloete, Sandton Police spokesperson said, “I can confirm that a case was opened with us and the docket has been sent to the Bramley police, but there is no docket number as yet.”
Jaye Sinclair, Burger King South Africa chief executive officer said, “Burger King South Africa is aware of security concerns and has increased security at its Rivonia Road store.”
