Posen said she had been trying, without any success, to get the agency to fix what she believes to be a very large pothole on the corners of Central and Second avenues in Illovo.
“In January 2014 Telkom was installing underground cables in Central Avenue, Illovo,” explained Posen.
“They struck a water pipe on the corner of 2nd Avenue and the resultant gush of water caused much damage in 2nd Avenue, including gouging a huge hole in the road at the circle.”
Posen said she first reported the pothole on 3 February.
“Shortly after this, a few smaller potholes round the circle were fixed but no attempt was made to fix the very large hole and road subsidence which is causing much disruption to traffic and damage to cars,” complained Posen.
On 1 March the Illovo resident again called the roads agency’s hotline and said she only received a reply on 3 March.
“In order to avoid damaging our cars we are now forced to go around the circle on the right side of it, which is very dangerous as this is into oncoming traffic.”
Roads agency spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said the roads agency team has inspected the pothole and have put safety measures in place to minimise the risk to road users.
“Unfortunately potholes expand quicker when it rains and repairs are significantly compromised if carried out when roads are not dry. The pothole will be repaired as soon as weather permits,” she said.
