Ramphele talks leadership at business school

SANDTON - Agang South Africa's Dr Mamphela Ramphele spoke about her leadership values at the Regenesys Business School in Sandton.

Ramphele was the speaker at a leadership conversation session in which she said South Africa needs inspirational leaders. During the session she also spoke about her political party. In the wake of election season, the business school has created a platform for political parties to engage its students and the public about the fundamentals of leadership and how their political parties are testament of that leadership model.

Ramphele said, “The values of a good leader is what I have lived by. I stood up because the country needs someone who can inspire and think beyond the narrow prospect that we have been given. We need to work together to build a winning nation. A mass democratic movement must be a critical intervention of all of us.”

She told guests about Agang’s turnaround strategy and spoke about the importance of electoral reform in South Africa. “We need to reconnect the voter with the public representative,” she added. Ramphele said South Africans needed to be responsible for choosing their leader and that the responsibility should not only be left to the ruling party.

“What’s required is re-imaging South Africa beyond apartheid.” When asked about her short-lived engagement with the Democratic Alliance as their presidential candidate she said, “There are times when a leader has to make unpopular decisions for the benefit of the whole. Also, one of the important values of a leader is to admit to your mistakes and fixing them.”
