According to police, they were at a stop street on the corner of Silwood and High roads when they noticed a man behaving suspiciously.
Bramley police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said one of the officers got out of the car and approached the man. “He [the officer] introduced himself and asked if he could search the man who agreed,” said Maphakela.
He said police found a black .38 Largo revolver with live ammunition tucked into the front of the man’s pants.
He said, “The serial number had been filed off, and when asked where he got the gun he told police he got it in Alexandra but could not remember the address.” Maphakela added that there were numerous reported cases of house breaking and car hijackings in the area where the suspect was arrested.
The 29-year-old suspect is due to appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Maphakela added that police were profiling the suspect to check if he could be linked to other cases.
