Missing student’s body found in veld

SUNNINGHILL- An engineering student who was reported missing on 31 January was found dead in a veld in Sunninghill on Wednesday.

According to the EBlockwatch Facebook page, Ronald Patrick Uys, an engineering student from TUKS University left his family’s home on 29 January, saying that he was going home ‘to sleep’. Uys lived with a group of housemates in Paulshof. The housemates contacted the family on 31 January because he hadn’t returned for two nights.

A major search was undertaken in the greater Fourways area which lasted five days.

According to Captain Kym Cloete of the Sandton police, cellphone tracking was used to locate his vehicle which was parked at Chilli Lane Shopping Centre.

The canine unit and police scoured the banks of the stream behind the shopping centre and eventually found his body in the veld alongside the stream.

Captain Cloete said that police do not suspect foul play but they are waiting for a post-mortem to be performed to determine the cause of death.
