Vagrants take over park

WENDYWOOD - The public bathrooms and storerooms of Wendywood Play Park have been taken over by vagrants.

This according to resident Marisa Rothbauer who lives opposite the park. She said there was also a vagrant that had made the playground tube into his home and there was an illegal electricity connection leading into the toilets and storerooms..

“These rooms are not residential dwellings,” said Rothbauer. “The recently painted concrete tubes meant for children to play in are being slept in. What toilets do these people use? Who is paying for the electricity consumption?

Rothbauer said the park needed a proper fence and a security guard because presently, people who used the sports club and recreation centre refused to use the toilets as it was unsafe.

“Some people urinate by the tennis court. I have even seen street vendors urinating in people’s gardens.”

A worker at the park, Jimmy Mofolo was unaware of any vagrants living on the property.

According to Metro police’s Wayne Minnaar, if vagrants were caught trespassing they were taken to city shelters and helped by social services.

“The Metro department helps enforce the bylaws,” said Minnaar.
