Three arrested for business heist in Woodmead

THREE men were arrested after a business robbery in Woodmead on 23 November.

Bramley police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the three men were part of a group of about seven who entered a shop in the morning and stole some goods.

“When they came out of the shop they saw a police vehicle parked outside and assumed it was there for them,” said Maphakela. “They then started shooting at the police car then fled in two cars. The police gave chase.

“A shootout followed between the robbers and the police. One of the robbers was shot and wounded in the shoulder.”

Maphakela said the police managed to corner one of the getaway cars. The wounded man (25) and two other robbers aged 41 and 26, were arrested. The wounded man was taken to hospital under police supervision.

Nine laptops, 19 digital cameras, 17 cellphones, and 12 watches were recovered from the vehicle.

The three men have appeared at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on 25 November for possession of stolen property, an unlicensed firearm and attempted murder.

The case was postponed and they will appear in court again.
