Women accosted by jewel thieves

TWO women were victims of jewellery theft by suspects driving a silver Audi in two separate incidents in Illovo and Atholl.

The thieves stole two rings, a watch and two gold bangles in Illovo and another watch valued at R175 000 in Atholl.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson of the Bramley police, said the woman in Illovo was trying to reverse her car when a silver Audi parked behind her.

“The woman locked her car doors when she saw a man carrying a firearm and coming towards her,” he said. Maphakela said the man’s face was covered by a colourful scarf.

“The man knocked on the woman’s window using the firearm and another man went to the passenger side of the vehicle and displayed his gun. He told the woman they would not hurt her if she cooperated with them.” The woman then opened the door and they took her jewellery and her cellphone.

The woman in Atholl was ambushed by two suspects who alighted from a silver Audi parked behind her. She was parked outside her driveway and was opening her gate. The two suspects stole her jewellery and handbag. The handbag had the woman’s iPhone, a pink purse, an ID book, bank cards and the woman’s diary.

Maphakela said the suspects were described as short in height, slim and they wore black jackets, black scarves and black gloves. The men’s faces were hidden under black balaclavas.

“We are appealing to the community to come forward if they have any information and to be extra careful,” he said.
