Misspelt road signs in Sandton

WARD 90 councillor Gordon Mackay said, “Sadly, misspelt signs have become a bit of an epidemic.”

This was after television and radio personality, Mark Pilgrim, posted a photo of a misspelt road sign on Twitter.

On the sign, Sandton Drive is spelt as ‘Santon Drive’. The sign was spotted outside Sandton City.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency was contacted and an official comment on the incorrect spelling was not received at the time of publication.

Mackay said, “My colleagues and I have raised the issue with the roads agency who have promised to take action. According to the last Quarterly Performance Report a total of three signs were reported and fixed.”

William Nicol Drive was also noticed as being spelt ‘William Nichol Drive’ at the intersection with Sandton Drive. Mackay added that it was unfortunate that as signs were being replaced, more were incorrect.

“I currently have nine reported street signs that are incorrect,” he said.
