The Redhill Environmental committee attended a talk and the launch of Garnier’s Take Care Environmental Awareness Campaign at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Roodepoort. The event was organised by Garnier and Prime Media to initiate environmental education and to launch the campaign. Pupils listened to a talk on ecosystems and biodiversity. Most importantly the aspect of planting indigenous trees was highlighted. To create awareness of the important role trees play on our planet, pupils tied green ribbons around some of the trees in the parking lot of the school. The symbolism of tying ribbons around trees stems from World War II. Wives, mothers and children did it as a prayer for their loved ones to return from war.
