Diwali fireworks upset Sandton residents

SANDTON residents have complained that this year’s Diwali celebrations were excruciating.

Celeste Redman from Wendywood said, “It was absolute anarchy. My precious dog that I have had for three years ran away because of the excessive noise.”

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said, “It was like a war zone and it went on for the whole night.”

Every year residents complain about the fireworks and the noise that takes place on Diwali. This year was no different when the celebrations took place on 3 November.

“I respect other cultural practices but this is just not being neighbourly. There must be bylaws against this. They have to take other people into consideration,” said Redman.

According to the bylaws, the use of fireworks is prohibited in certain circumstances unless authorised. Fireworks can only be used from 7pm to 10pm on Diwali.
