Philanthropy advances South African society

NEDBANK Private Wealth hosted an educational seminar on philanthropy in South Africa at The Hilton Hotel in Sandton.

The bank’s philanthropy specialists, Noxolo Hlongwane and Sibusiso Nsibanyoni talked about the need for businesses and individuals to support causes and donate funds.

“We can all relate to giving and helping others,” said Hlongwane.

Nsibanyoni said the motivation for giving was comprised of personal fulfilment, duty and religious beliefs and the majority of support went to welfare, education and health.

Public speaker, Clem Sunter highlighted the principles of philanthropy.

He spoke about the importance of risk-free donations as he strongly believed in assessing the key uncertainties before donating.

He talked about the importance of motivation and finding a champion in each project for the community to relate to.

“We need to celebrate the heroes so their service can be honoured,” said Sunter.

Executive producer of Carte Blanche, George Mazarakis concluded the seminar by speaking about the Making a Difference Trust.

The trust financially assists peadiatrics in hospitals nationwide and receives donations from the public.
