Art for a cause

ArtAbout, Good art for a Good Cause, is a group of professional artists who would like to assist charitable causes and promote their art.

The artists are Julie Egenrieder, Carole Hastings, Grace Richardson, Val Stockden, and Joan Williams-Ashman.

The group originally met when they were students of artist, Hazel Thompson who passed away in 2011.

According to Egenrieder, Thompson was well-known for her flower studies and local landscapes in oil and pastel.

Thompson is the link between most of the group today and her work will be showcased with that of her students.

Each artist has her own style and subject matter and is influenced by a number of contemporary South African artists as well as Monet, Cezanne, Matisse, Stern and Boonzaier.

“The idea for exhibiting and donating to charity was a way in which we could get some exposure for our work and to give something back to society and the community,” said Egenrieder.

The exhibition will take place at the Morningside Shopping Centre on 27 September from 9am to 6pm and 29 September from 10am to 2pm.
